Default Brake Master Cyl.

Ok just got a new master cyl. for my sisters car... from the looks it just looks like its 2 bolts plus the brake lines... is there anything else that i need to do before replacing it? such as draining the brake fluid? or if i take off the lines and the bolts would the fluid stay in the resivor?

you will have some leakage out of the lines and the master cylinder so make sure it doesnt leak on any painted surfaces or there will no longer be paint...If the new MS doesnt come with a new reservoir you can just pry the old one off and pop it on the new MS with the new o rings (I think it comes with new ones)...with the reservoir now attached you will need to bench bleed the new MS per the instructions with the plasic fittings and lines in the box... this gets rid of unwanted air bubbles... You can even take the MS to a brake shop and have them power bleed it... With the new MS attached you will then need to bleed the brakes starting with the right rear and working your way to the wheel closest to the MS...bleed the lines untill you have clean fresh fluid coming out of the bleeder screws and check and top off the MS often...

No bubbles no troubles!!!
good luck

you need to make sure that the one your friend gave you is for your exact application... If your car has no abs and your friends did then the MS may be proportiond wrong... Not sure but its worth a check... You should be able to by a remanufactured one at any part store for $35... Even if it was installed on a car prior to yours its still gonna need bench bled first... You can buy the bench bleed fittings and lines at a part store for under $5... Also ask if there are replacement o rings for the reservoir you can buy...
