Default 1996 Dodge Neon Problems

I just purchased my Dodge Neon less than four months ago and I am having some serious problems:

1. When I turn the key to start it the engine doesn't start. It stalls. At first I used to give it some gas and it would start but now it doesn't do anything at all when I do that.

2. That car overheats when I drive for more than thirty minutes.

3. When it idles it tends to cut off. This happens when I am sitting at a stoplight or waiting in traffic. It will start to shake and than it shuts off.

I have no idea what the problem is. Is it the feul pump, or does it have anything to do with the amount of gas I keep in my tank. I am lost.

check the fuel pressure regulator, never heard of that happening, but it does cause a hard start. pull the vacuum tube, if gas comes out it's shot (the diaphragm is broken)

Well i ended up using this series of products. "Octance Booster" and all this other stuff you fill in your tank after you have filled ur tank up with gas. I have driven everywhere in the last three days and it still rides a little ruff but my fear of it cutting off is almost gone. I think the series of products helped out.

those prodcuts may have helped some but the prob is still there, especially if it's overheating after only 30mins of running. does it still overheat? if not then you could have just had a bubble in the system or a stuck thermo. as for the fuel problem could have had dirty injectors which in your case would explain why you can start it better now. hopefully that's all it was but if the prob continues you could possibly have a clogged fuel filter. since its still running a bit ruff then tuning her up might be a good option, new plugs, wires stuff of that nature. you will find a lot more info and help in the first gen section. Good Luck

yeah if it hasen't been done in a while give it a full tune up, and try having the fuel injectors cleaned with a motor vac machine. I charge $90 for it, so it should be in that price range for the injector cleaning.

Is it losing oil? How many miles? Was the headgasket ever changed?
