Default Scan code P0601???

I have a 1999 Neon. Service engine soon light is on. Scan code comes up with P0601. I have found that it is related to the PCM. Is it difficult to replace? Any other fix besides replacing it? Also, if found at a junk yard for same year, would it still need to be reprogrammed? If so, who and is it $$$? Not much money, emssions test in a couple of weeks. Please bear with me, I'm new to posting... Thanks

Reset the PCM (disconnect the battery for about an hour) and see if the code comes back. That code indicates an internal failure in the PCM, and if the code comes back, the PCM would have to be replaced.

You can get one from a junkyard and swap it in without reflashing or reprogramming it. It's a simple swap. You can use one from a 97-99. Just make sure you get an auto or manual PCM depending on your tranny.

I contacted some junk yards. They needed the last for numbers from my PCM, which is 9818AG. They said they had one with AC and AD at the end but no AG. They said it was compatiable. Does anyone know what the AG stands for and/or if its compatible? thanks

How much are they trying to charge you? As long as it's from a 97-99 neon and from the same tranny you have, you are fine.

Thats about right. It may be a bit cheaper if you got it from a pick-n-pull.

I just wanted to thank you for your help I picked up a PCM at junk yard for $40. Swapped it out and it seems to work fine. Check engine light is off, passed emissions. Thanks again.

HI, just wanted to see what the danger is of driving while the check engine light is on with a P0601 code. Am trying to find a replacment, but the car is still running. Am i doing some major damage by driving it?
