Default 97 Dodge neon Died

I need some anwsers. My 97 neon died. I was drivin down the road and it started to sputter and then died. Tried to restart, it didnt. Had it towed to a shop, and he checked the cam sensor, the timein belt and another sensor. It told me it was an electric problem. So i had it towed to another shop and they told me I needed a Timein Belt kit, so i went and bought it. They put it on and it fired. Now they are tellin me that my valves (SP) might be bent. From what I heard and know, the only way they can bend is by the timin belt either brakes or skips time. Neither one happen. I guess i need to know if they are tell me the truth or just tryin to get money from me. And maybe if there is anything else that might be the problem?

You can also bend valves if it skips a tooth. Have the compression checked to see if the valves are bent.
