Default New to Neons

I just signed up today, just recieved a 97 neon, 146xxx miles on her. I do believe she needs a head gasket, i knew there were a few things wrong with her, this was one he neglected to mention, either he didnt know or didnt care, either way "I" dont care, this car is FAR cheaper to maintain than the 944.

He said it looses coolant, but "doesnt know where it goes", the same was said for oil, and that it leaks. so my first thought was "Head gasket"[:@] I have done a little bit of research on these cars, and i kinda expected this. I was thinking about using one of those copper head gaskets, what would you guys suggest? What type/weight of oil should i run with this motor/milage. i run 15w40 in the 944.

Symptom: The car seems to run ok, but at just off idle, she misfires/hesitates like hell. [:'(]
So the spark plugs must damn near be drowning. What does it usually cost to have the gasket replaced? Im sure im gonna need new plugs as well, im not gonna touch the wires unless they look like they need to be changed.

The po had said this car was maintained well, his daughter in law and grand daughter were the ones to use the car. It has a speedo prob, as well as air bag prob (thats why he sold it, wanted something safer) dont care about that much, though id like to disconnect the power to the air bag deploying device though.

Im not happy with the gauge pod either, can i take the gauge pod out and throw one in that has more guages, Tach/Oil Press/Volt/whatev?

TIA
-Jeff

get an MLS head gasket...use 5w30 oil...there is an oil for high milage cars too...

you can get a gauge cluster that has the speedo, tach, fuel, and temp.....but thats all unless you wanna go aftermarket gauges..

why is it useless to go with a different O.E. cluster? I assume it will plug right it. im not gonn do anything fancy with this car, thats why i have the Porsche, but i dont want to drive that in the winter, and my CJ doesnt have a floor, roof, or doors......

That cluster would be better than what i have now. Is there anything special i have to do to delete the a/c unit? Mine is dead.
That reminds me, when i put the neon in the garage, is sounded like there was something boiling, the sound came from the passenger side under/behind the dash. I turned the heater temp **** all the way to cold, and it stopped. Heater Core??? I think read somewhere that they have a tendency to freeze inside.

Hey, the good news is the Jensen CD that came with the car has a warranty that lasts the life of the car! [sm=happy046.gif]

you can unbolt the pump and remove all the lines under the hood, but thats as much as you can do, and you will have to get a new p/s belt

any idea on the boiling noise? the a/c i dont need, but if this is my winter ride, heat is kinda important. i dont know if i should take this car into the local garage, or have my mopar buddy look at her, hes got a 98 r/t with all the bells and whistles.
