I've been thinking about removing my power steering pump. Could this cause any harm? Would I gain back any horsepower? Is it worth the time? I'm mainly looking to free up some horsepower and maybe shed some weight. I only thought about it because it makes an obnoxious sound sometimes and I know it's going to fail eventually.

Remove the line and the pump and its feels better. If you just remove the belt, its a PITA to turn, but if you remove everything, it's not so bad. Better feel for the road also.

Probably a loose belt.

My friend was telling me that i should put my belt back on mine, because the rack and pinion thing should have fluid goin through it... and without the pump pumping... it has none and can cause problems... True or false or both?

In reply to the above... IT actually could be the AC is locked up and its keeping the belt from spinning... that was the problem with mine when my ex had the car... So we took out the AC and every thing was peachy!
