Default fuel system lean

while i was driving, my service engine soon light turned on. I checked the codes and came up with 12 and 51. i'm not too concerned about code 12, but more so about code 51.

CODE 51: Fuel System Lean

...my friend told me that i shouldn't run my car because when your fuel goes lean, it's a possibility that your engine is not receiving enough fuel and your engine might blow. Well what can i do? i use shell 89 octane. thanks

Default RE: fuel system lean

Lean will cause you to put out craploads of NO, which I think would make the downstream O2 sensor start dumping more gas into the system to make it run closer to rich. Dunno if it would kill the engine outright...

It could a fuel delivery system (fuel pump dying, unlikely, clogged system, unlikely) or a regulatory system (electricals)

Could check fuel pressure at the rails to see if it's fuel delivery?
