Default leaky 97 neon

I checked around the forum and found a couple of things about interior leaks, however my situation is slightly different.

My 97 neon leaks when it rains...I usually find a puddle of water on the front passenger's floorboard. I've traced the leak to the passenger side kick panel (rh side underneath the glove box), where I observed water leaking out. When I pulled the kick panel off, I saw traces where the water was running down the sheet metal underneath and out onto the carpet.

My first thought was the windshield, so I ran a strip of clear caulking/sealer across the bottom seal on the outside and replaced a screw that was missing. No dice.

The water seems to be coming from an area up behind the end of the passenger side dash/glovebox, but I'm not sure that I have the desire to pull all of that apart. I'm wondering if there is something I've missed, or something that could be done from the outside.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

mine is doin the same, somehow it gets into the heater fan and runs out, eventually the heater fan rusts and locks up.

Hmmm...interesting. I have noticed that the heater fan occasionally does not sound like it is operating as smoothly as it should. Sounds like there is a load on it. Very sporadic, though.

You might want to check that windshield again. I've had this problem on other cars, and sometimes running a bead of caulk doesn't seal it up. The water can still channel from the top of the windshield and end up behind the sealant. I've pulled windshields and found bubble rust where it was leaking - no sealant is going to fix that until the rust has been knocked down / spot primed / painted. You might have something else going on, but ya never know. ;-)
