Default 1995 Dodge Neon Transaxle identification

Can someone help me out?
I am looking for a used Manual transaxle for my 1995 dodge neon sport and would like to know what the numbersmean on the transmission?
Does anyone know which Manual transaxles years work with a 1995?
Transaxle identification numbers?
What is the life expectance of the nv-t350 transaxle? I drive mine in heavy traffic and never slip the clutch and repair shop tells me that they only last 100,000 miles.
The problem with mine is when it is cold outside my manual transaxle makes a grinding noise. I have had the Modular clutch replace and still have the noise. My mechanic says that it is the input shaft bearing.
Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

You can use any tranny from 95-00 with no problems as they are cable clutches, 01-03 use hydraulic clutches. CLICK ME for production numbers.

Thanks for the information it was really helpful.
If you were to buy a used transmission what year would you buy? I am thinking of getting a newer transmission because it may have fewer miles on it.
Does the final drive or 5th gear make a difference in gas mileage?
Any information will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Troy B.

If you get the tranny from a J/Y ask them the km's on the car or check yourself. The SOHC tranny has a 3.55 final drive so it revs lower at highway speeds VS the DOHC tranny which has a 3.94 final drive.

Not all dohc neons have the 3.94 trans. The NVT plate on the end of the gearbox will help identify the gears inside.

The 3.94FD found on acr and r/t neons has a shorter geared 5th gear which is helpful for n/a neons. The shorter 5th gear allows you to accelerate more quickly than you standard 3.55FD trans. Be mindful of this, meaning the faster you accelerate your mpgwill equally decrease. All depends on what you wanna do.

Yes they did! Some have a different 5th gear ratio, but the final drive is still 3.94.

Whatinformation are you basing your statement on? I can provide you with a VIN and NVT numbersof a 98 mtx expresso with a 3.55FD. If you have the means to investigate, there may have been a swap at some point. Therehave beenseveral mtxDOHC neons that camethru the yard with 3.55FD.Could do a poll to see what other board members have seen.

ive never seen a dohc with the 3.55 that came stock....ive got the 3.55 in my r/t, but i put that in a few weeks ago.....

i hated driving my other r/t with the 3.55 tranny in it....it didnt have enough get-up-and-go for me, so i gladly threw the 3.94 back in it

Chryslers information. All DOHC's came with a 3.94 tranny from the factory!

Did a more thorough search and found I am mistaken. Was under the impression only the higher models had the 3.94FD. So dod the dohc have the .72 and the acr & r/t have the .81?
