Need help, possible TPS problem?
Well i did a search and found a little info, and I'm in a rush so i didn't get to sift through all of my searches ...
(So I'm sorry in advance if i missed the TPS problemsthread lol)
Anyway, My g/f has a 96' Neon SOHC, it struggles to start sometimes and it's a complete dog.
You put the pedal to the floor and it just bogs it's way up through the mph, and not in a hurry.
We took it to a mechanic at my old highschool and he said it's possibly a Throttle Position Sensor, but i figured before i had her buy the part and i went to work on it I'd ask a crowd who might be able to help me out more on it.
I understand the concept, if it's a bad sensor it could be sending botched signals and telling the PCM the throttle is in a position it actually isn't in -in turn making it run like crap.
I just wanted to know if this is a well know problem? any hints or tricks to this procedure? Is there something else we should be looking at?
BTW it idles fine, it just takes a couple seconds to start, compared to twisting the key for a second and starting immediately,I was told that might be another sign that the TPS is on it's way out/gone.
Any and all information is greatly appreciated,
Anthony

CEL isn't on., which seems odd to me. I figured if the car were to perform that badly surely the CEL would come on, but nothing.
And i know the light works, it displays momentarilywhen u turn the key over, prior to ignition.
Engine doesn't make any funny sounds, doesn't stall out, stutter, etc.I changed the oil today, so that's not an issue, air filter is3,000miles old and still clean.
It just performs very poorly. When accelerating there seems to be no difference between 1/4 throttle and WOT, except the increase in the intakes "whooooshing" sound, but the car accelerates the same, if not a bit slower at WOT.
So, the lack of a difference in acceleration between 1/4 throttle and full throttle brings me back to the TPS failing to notice the difference in throttle movement...?
