Default Easy headlight question

Hi, I have a '96 Plymouth Neon whose headlights are dim beyond being safe. To remedy this I simply plan to replace the bulbs (probably 11 years old by now) with new ones. At target I looked at a manual that told me to get 9007 type bulbs that use 65/55 watts. I saw some bulbs that said they were for neons years 95-05, but they were rated 100/80 watts; is this ok?

Any suggestions as to what I can do/should buy would be greatly appreciated, though keep in mind that I don't really want to spend much. I'm trying to keep it to a budget of $25 or less!

Thanks!
-Brian

as long as they are 9007 they should be fine.

Thanks, that's good to know! I was reading somewhere that some people make bulbs that draw too many watts and can then cause electrical damage or fire![sm=insomnia.gif]

Reading that I was a bit worried to get new bulbs....especially ones that drew more watts than the ones I saw in target. I would have just consulted my owners manual...but I bought the car used and they previous owners had lost it.

Thanks again!

what brand are they? i would keep with the normal Sylvania's since you just want the basic ones under 25. i dont know how well the GE ones are and such. but the Sylvania's are nice.

I was looking at some Hipro Power bulbs cause I found them for cheap on overstock. I'd get normal sylvania, but I'm worried that they might not make a marked difference. And I could get their SilverStar line...but they cheapest I could find were $30.

Thanks for all the help so far!

DO NOT GET HIGER WATTAGE BULBS THEY WILL MELT THE WIRES LEADING TO THE HEADLIGHTS. GO WITH THE WATTAGE BULBS THAT ARE SUGGESTED

You can put a super bright light in but it will not do too much good. The best thing to do is replace the whole light assembly. They make different aftermarket light assembllies that are reasonablly priced. See what happens is the reflective stuff inside the light oxidizes and you get that yellow dull look. I have new light assemblies with just regular stock bulbs and I get flashed by people now, they are awesome. Trust me it is well worth the extra money.
