timing belt broke?
my friend has a 97 SOHC neon and the timing belt snapped what is the chances that he didnt break anything,,has there been any1 with this problem, that just replaced the belt and it was ok?????any info is appreciated thanks,,
I replaced the belt on mine, and it was fine.I think I was one of the very lucky ones though.Mine also broke at about 5000rpm.I was racing it at the time. You wont really know till you put a new belt on and try it.Good luck
The neon has an interference engine, so when the belt snaps, 99% of the time the valves get bent. If you want to replace the belt, change the water pump and tensioner pulley as well, EVEN IF THEY LOOK FINE! Do that and then check the compression to see if the valves are bent.
great thanks,,,i think we will just change the head,,it to me would just be the best thing 2 do cause if we fix it and the valves r bent we would be fixing it twice,,,so ty 4 the info guy's,,and i have a 95 head laying around, and just 2 make sure,im99.9% positive that it fits but if some1 can confirm that 4 me it would be great,,95 head on a 97 ,,,,,ty again..
