95 neon atx question
I have just recently replaced my trany in my 95 neon sohcb/c my last one starting slipping when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and over drive went bad then finally blew all the grears out. Now i have replaced the tranywith a new about a week ago with a trany out of a 98 neon sohc with only 71000 miles on it and it seems like it is slipping when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd this is the first atx neon i have owned do the all seems like they jerk from 2nd to 3rd or is this trany bad also?
First of all, the auto trannies on the neon don't have an overdrive.
I would assume you changed the fluid and filter on the tranny you just put in. If not, you may want to try that and adjust/tighten your kickdown band.
Why didn't you swap in an MTX?

yeah i changed the fluid and filter in the trany it seems to have a jerk at around 20 to 25 mph when it shifts into the next gear and goes to 2500rpms at around 60mph. The reason i left it a atx is b/c it is my work car i have a 95 neon dohc 2 door that i am redoing from top to bottom that i wrecked and have to put a whole front frame structure on the drivers side.
I think know where the kick down band located the one on top of front of trany right? how would i go upon adjusting it how many turns at a time should i go? Im hopeing that the problem do u think it is? Also would it hirt the if you over fill it with trans fluid i haven't but i was just wondering.
Yep, its on top of the tranny.
KICKDOWN BAND (FRONT)
The kickdown band adjusting screw is located on left side (top front) of the transaxle case.
(1) Loosen locknut and back–off nut approximately five turns. Test adjusting screw for free turning in
the transaxle case.
(2) Using wrench, tighten adjusting screw to 8 N·m (72 in. lbs.).
(3) Back–off adjusting screw 2-1/4 Turns. Hold adjusting screw in this position and tighten locknut to 47 N·m (35ft. lbs.)
LOW/REVERSE BAND (REAR)
To adjust low/reverse band, proceed as follows:
(1) Loosen and back off locknut approximately five turns.
(2) Using an inch-pound torque wrench, tighten adjusting screw to 5 N·m (41 in. lbs.) true torque.
(3) Back–off adjusting screw 3-1/2 Turns.
(4) Tighten locknut to 14 N·m (10 ft. lbs.)
Check your throttle linkage and gearshift linkage as well.
