Default i failed smog

Today was the day that i chose to get my car smoged. cost is 60 bucks for test only, that is what the DMV asked for. turns out that i failed the smog test. the guy that did the test for me said it might be the cat or i just might need a tune up. anybody know a way how i can get my car to pass smog?

changing the oil right before you go really helps seal up the rings and make it cleaner, replace the air filter, plugs... how many miles is on your car?

Ethanol blended into your gasoline will reduce NOx.

New plugs, distributor cap, wires and rotor
will reduce either CO or HC.

New heavy weight 15W-50 engine oil will slightly reduce CO and HC too.
