Default No Engine Spark

Hey all,

I have a sohc 1996 neon. I have just replaced the head because the belt broke. The car is back together and ran for about 45 min when it just turned off. I have no explaination for this. It was in the driveway at idle while I was cleaning up the tools. I have checked and I have no spark yet the coil pack is goo by the meter. ANY HELP PLEASE. My wife needs the car to get to work tomorrow.

I have a 96 neon that will shut down after dirving for a while - I found this info - it may be helpful to you.

Chrysler uses what's known as an Auto Shut Down relay. The ASD relay supplies battery voltage (12+ volts) to the fuel injectors and ignition coil(s). With certain emissions packages it also supplies 12 volts to the oxygen sensor heating elements. The ground circuit for the coil within the ASD relay is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM operates the ASD relay by switching its ground circuit ON and OFF.
The ASD relay will be shutdown, meaning the 12-volt power supply to the ASD relay will be de-activated by the PCM if:
[ul][*]The ignition key is left in the ON position. This is if the engine has not been running for approximately 1.8 seconds.[*]There is a crankshaft position sensor signal to the PCM that is lower than pre-determined values. [/ul]
So if you do not have fuel or spark, it is probably due to a bad ASD relay. On your vehicle there is a relay bracket next to the battery. Looking across the top of the battery at the relay bracket, the ASD relay would be the left most relay on the bracket.
Terminal 30 should have battery voltage . If not check the fuses and fusible links

Check all battery and starter connections, fuses and relays.

Ok guys, this is the same problem I have been having with my neon, exactly the same problem. I did a head job on my 97 and it ran for about 45 min when it cut out on a rev in the driveway. I have replaced the pcm, cam sensor, had the crank sensor checked, checked the coilpack, and everything else you could think of. I am getting a new wiring harness because I believe I have a short somewhere on the coil feed. I hooked up my scanner to it and I am not getting any codes either. It is especilly strange that it happend to both of us after we did the head job on it. If you get it running, let me know what the problem is!!
At first, I thought that the timming belt skipped a couple teeth, but upon disassembling, my timing marks were on, not to mention like I said I was not getting any codes which I would if the belt skipped. Also make sure to spray some contact cleaner in the wires because you might have gotten oil or something in there causing a short. Good luck and let us know!!
