Overheating but not really overheating.
Ok so..95 Plymouth Neon SOHC ATX. Car has an intermittent problem of cutting out and stalling (only a couple times) when it is warm at low rpms. The coolant guage sits at about 1/2 and never goes any higher than that. It seems to be more prone to do it after sitting at a light but it is still complete random as far as I can tell. I was leaning towards the problem as heat related but it doesn't seem right since the guage isn't higher. Possibly fuel injectors or spark plugs or wires?? I have replaced the head (with junkyard head) and headgasket because the old head was warped and doing the same thing. I also left the plugs from the junkyard in the head and they did the same thing. Also new stat, rad cap, coolant temp sensor, and fan relay. When I was replacing the head I noticed that the water pump and timing belt appeared to be newer so I am 1/2 dismissing them. Also the radiator is non-oem so I am 1/2 dismissing that as well. Another thing is that after I turned the car off I could hear the computer squealing. I do have a CEL on but it is for the o2 sensor. Thanks in advance for your help.
if your first o2 sensor is bad they will run like complete ****, the 2nd one doesnt matter.
the squealing from the computer is normal.i can hear mine from 15 feet away after i shut the car off.
Try to get rid of the CEL first,
95's were known for the coil to get weak, not just go bad and make a crappy spark and cause them to miss at lower RPM or stall
i would check and see if you have hot blue / white spark
another thing to try, smack the computer while its running and see if it starts to miss.

I figured that the o2 sensor wouldn't cause the problem but just make me get worse mileage. I'll get that taken care of first though. Thanks for the input racerx.
Ok so just a quick update. I checked the codes today just for fun and got: 12: battery... 43: Cylinder Misfire 21: o2 sensor (already knew that) 34: Speed control solenoid (cruise doesn't work...don't think this is related) and 55: end of codes. I was also wondering if by any chance the trans/torque converter may have something to do with the cutting out I am experiencing. The only reasons I bring this up is: 1. It started cutting when I put it in reverse today but hadn't started to move. 2. The trans could very well be original with original fluid at 165k miles. 3. The car will run all day in neutral with no problems whatsoever. Just curious if maybe the torque converter is trying to send power to the wheels before the engine has a chance to catch up and then it feels like its cutting out. Also trans fluid level is fine and fluid does not smell burnt.
Yet another update. I got a junkyard o2 sensor for the one that is before the cat. I also inspected the wiring down there behind the engine and it appeared that perhaps the old o2 plug was the problem as some of the wires were frayed. I also inspected the wires and coil pack, couldn't see any issues there other than the connection to the coilpack's clip was broken so I taped it up so it was secured. <- That could have been my problem all along. I also reset the computer by pulling the fuel pump fuse. Put it back together and it ran fine during my test drive, couldn't notice any difference in performance but I only drove about 10 miles once it was warm. Due to the randomness of my problem I won't know anything definite until I drive it for a couple days.
