Default timing belt

Timing belt broke going 25 mph. 1997 neon sohv motor. Is there a relatively easy way to check for valve damage. Without pulling the head offf. So I dont waste time or money replacing the timing belt?

honestly the only way to check without removing the head would be to put a new timing belt on the car and then do a compression test......though most likely you will have to replace a few valves....but you might be one of the lucky 2% that dont

Yes there is, remove the valve cover and take off the rocker arms, all the valves are now closed. Then do a cylinder leakage test by pressurizing through the sparkplug holes.
