Why do my fans turn on with a cold engine?

This has struck my curioisty, I'm glad its not the opposite where they don't turn on.

But, I see no reason why they should be on like that. If it matters, my car used to have a/c and power steering.

my 96, you start it, runs for 2 or 3 minutes, fans comes on for a couple minutes then go back off. i have no idea why. my 95 did the same thing.
i notice if you rev it up they shut off until the throttle is returned to idle position, i think it has to do with the A/C being disonnected.[&:]

Racer is right. My buddy stripped the a/c and power steering pump out of his and it did the same thing. Like you said better on than not.
