A/C Compressor bearing.....
..... my wife's little '95 Neon is a fully optioned 4 dr with the combination Heater and A/C. When the system isactivated with the fan on in either the Heater Defrostor A/C position, and with the clutch engaged, there is a loud bearing squeal, but only under load. At idle............. no noise. While under normal driving conditions and the Heater Defrostor A/C on, the squeal returns. The Heater and A/C works great, just has the squeal. The noises cycles with the on-off of the clutch engagement. I suspect that the compressor bearing is failing and have unplugged it to avoid the noise. My question is then.............. is the bearing itself changeable or does the entire compressor have to be replaced ?? I have the factory service manuals as well as a Haynes manual and there is no mention of my problem or even whether or not the bearing itself can be replaced. Anyones help is appreciated.................
yea definately check the belt tension first, theyre bad about squealing constantly if its not tight.
You'll have toadjust the power steering pump - thats the same belt, the PS pump is where its adjusted.
if its a bearing in the compressor you'd be better off getting another one than playin hell replacing that one.

............ new belts. Tension is correct. Squeal is only when either the A/C or the Heater/Defrost is on with the A/C clutch cycling on and off. Thanks for the replys. Anyone else ??
