what do door ajar & dome have in common??
Im not having any fun with this one. The dome light of my daughters '98 neon started blinking on & off at random, the relay clicks and the door ajar light on the dash comes on at the same time. Im sure it is an intermitent short someplace but I have no idea what they share except the door switch. I was thinking it may be a short in the headlight switch but what does that have to do with door ajar??? the Haynes diagrams don't even show where "door ajar" is in the circuit. it will do it with or without the headlights on.
I feel like a real nimrod driving down the road with my own personal disco light going. (and the kid is a little freeked out too.) any help would be greatly apreciated.

Bad switch
I had this same problem with both of my Neons and Idisconnected them both. ( took the easy way out ) I will probably replace the switches as soon as I think about it again.

Thanks everone!!!
I looked at all 4 doors ang found thatboth rear doors are missing the little black bumper pad that is attached to the door and contatcts the dome light buttons. I am going to try puting those back on . If that doesn't work I will try disconecting each switch till I find the culpret. thanks again for the advice and I will post the results.

Its been a week (almost) and no more disco lights!!!! YEA!!!!. it was the little rubber door bumper pads. the doors wiggled just enough for the very sensitive door switches to activate. Thank you for a wonderful and infomative site.
