Well, the 360 just wasn't enough motor for me.
I picked up a rebuilt 1968 383. Low mileage, 30 over. 9.2:1 pistons.
Plans include:
Edelbrock Performer intake
Holley 750 (or larger)
Headers
Lunati 292/480 cam
Electronic distributor.

Hoping to eek 400 hp out of it.

I ended up with an 870 Holley.
The compression will be about 9.8:1.
I bought a slightly bigger cam. Going with the
Lunati Voodoo 268/276 .494/.513.
Swapped out the 8 1/4 for a 9 1/4. Needs a
Sure Grip.

Sweet looking truck...I love that purple. I have a '68 Newport with the 383. Please keep us up to date on the motor build.

Try finding a 8 3/4" 742 case suregrip out of a 69-72 C-body... I believe it's the right width and a much better rearend. You will need different axles though (different bolt pattern).

Will do. The 906 heads are having the bowls opened and ports matched.
Too much work for the 8 3/4. I checked into it.
A complete (drum to drum) 9 1/4 cost me $300.

A little progress.
The stainless steel block hugger headers hit
the frame rail on both sides. Time for some
long tubes I guess.

Thanks! I've tried to let the color grow on me, but I don't like it.
It should have been painted Plum Crazy.

I cut open my wire harness for the engine and just removed what I didn't need. Bundle the extras up and hide them.
What rear end are you using? If you get over 400 hp you might think about an 8 3/4 or 9 1/4.

Busted out the angle grinder and made the block huggers fit.

Now I have spark plug and wire fitment issues.
Autolite 2974's are supposed to take care of the plugs.I'll need to make some custom wires.

I would suggest ceramic boot plug wires. The heat off(#4 cylinder) header destroys the boots.
