Default no voltage at coil

I have an 1989 dodge ram with no voltage at the coil. The chilton book says it is the smec. Can you by them or do you have to get it out of a junk yark? Thanks.[:-]

Default RE: no voltage at coil

Hello!!

You could possibly buy it at a junk yard. Be sure to get the exact part number. And if possible, try to check the other components and the wiring as well to make sure that the problem really is there. Try to obtain DTC's and follow the diagnostic charts to solve them (If you get an 11 code, you problem could be the pickup coil at the distribuitor).

I found these sites. Theymight be helpful locating, maybe buyingand comparing your SBEC.

Hope this helps and good luck!
