Default Overdrive Lockout Button

My 92' 1/2 ton has the overdrive lockout push button switch on the dash. I've been towing my trailer more often and I have a very difficult time getting the switch to work. I have to push it so hard to get it to work that I'm afraid I'm going to push it thru the dash. Is this just a simple on/off switch? Can I just replace it with a good toggle switch? Thanks in advance.

My honest opinion is NO. The switch is hooked up to an OD Control Module and I think if you hook up a standard toggle switch you stand a chance of the contacts inside the switch arcing just enough to fry the Module. You could try removing the switch and spraying some electrical cleaner into it, but make sure it's the type that doesnot harm plastic! woirk the switch while it is wet with cleaner and let it dry good. I would get a new switch from Dodge or maybe from the junkyard?
I believe the part# is 56007184 and can be had online for $33 plus shipping from places like www.makeitmopar.com

You are right it is much more than a simple on/off switch. I removed it tonight and cleaned it with electrical cleaner as you suggested. It works much better. Thanks
