Default Need buying advice

hey all. im new here and want to find out if this is a good buy for me. i found a 91 ram, with the cummins. 4WD, and dual wheel conversion with a new plow on it. the truck is in pretty good shape as far as paint and body goes. frame looks good just surface rust and it has an aluminum flat bed o the back with no sides. 100k miles

my questions

hard much of a work truck is this?

will the tranny hold up for a while longer?

it shook at idle when stoped at a light...is that just the nature of the beast?

and finally what am i looin at in terms of mpg?

what would you pay?

Yeah, totally missed this thread.

Tranny - auto or manual? The 727 Torqueflight is a great tranny, but it needs to be taken care of. Mine blew up at about 220k miles due to abuse. The 4-speed manuals are solid.

These things were designed as work trucks first, which is why they didn't sell better. They're really popular with farmers and government agencies because they're so tough and reliable. The CTD is an awesome motor, it's the ONLY medium duty motor offered in a light duty truck (read: designed for motorhome and medium/large delivery truck type use and stuffed into a HD pickup).

Shaking at idle? How badly? It could be normal, or it could signify a broken motor mount or some other problem. Find another owner/mechanic to take a look at it.

MPG? Hard to say, but it's possible to get 20+ mpg in them.

What would I pay? If it's in good shape, the thing should be worth somewhere around $7500-10k in my area, depending on condition.
