Default Help!!! Who Knows Their Stuff????

Hi, Im own a 1981 Dodge Ram 150. It's got a 225 slant six and automatic transmission. My problem is the transmission holds gear too long. 1st to 2nd shifts at almost 30 mph, 2nd to 3rd at almost 50mph. Will stay in 2nd gear as long as you dont go over 45-50 mph. Around town Im always in second gear until I go over 45-50. I adjusted the linkage from carb to trans, but this is only for kickdown. The original tire size was 215/75/15 but its got 235/75/15 (taller) on it now. Would this make such a big difference? Please help. Post an answer here or at idomybest711@aol.com I would really appreciate the help

My dad had that problem on his 85 dodge 2wd auto tranny with a 318, it would only shift when u let off the gas and jab it. Put a different tranny and the problem was fixed. Personally I dont like the 3 spd auto trannys.

sounds like the govenor is stuck or possibly the valve body could be a band adjustment time to take it to a pro.
