I have a 1992 Dodge Dakota 4x4 5.2l it was backfiring it would occasionally stall but only when you came to a stop but it would allways start back up put a new starter in that didn't help so thought it had bad gas changed the fuel filter put some injector cleaner in then it started backfiring now it won't start at all it cranks and makes a low "whoomp" sound. Please anything would help also put in new plugs wires and cap

 

Have you checked the timing ? I had a Ramcharger that started backfiring turned out the timing chain was bad .

 

Do you have a spark?

 

I put new plugs wires and cap in yesterday and no change and I did the wire to metal test to look for spark and there was none but I am not sure if that was a good test thank you

 

ah, It realy helps if the husband puts the spark plugs in the right order
