Default Ignition switch starter problem

No sooner did I get my tail lights fixed on my 84 Dodge when the ignition switch went out on me! First I shorted across that starter to see if it was working. It was so I got a new starter relay. That didn't do the trick. When I jump from the new starter relay to the battery it will start right up. I looked through an online manual to see if there is a fuse somewhere in that wiring but couldn't find anything. I imagine the problem is in the starter switch, however, it will start when I have the switch in the run position and stop when I turn the key to the off position. Is it very hard to replace a starter switch?

Also I am wondering how much to budget for the needed body work and painting on this truck. I really love this old truck. I bought it new when my daughter was a few months old so it means a lot to me. Right now I have it in Corpus Christi Texas . . . the salt air is hard on it. So I guess it will need sandblasting to get rid of the rust. I have never done this type of job myself but I have refinished boats. As I said I love this old truck! It seems to me that it might be cheaper to fix this truck up than buy a new one. Any idea or comments (including your a damn fool . . . to that I will readily agree) are welcome.

Tim

Depends how much body work is needed and if you are doing it yourself or paying for having it done. The ignition switch should be held in the steering column by a pin n suchin the switch/lock cylinder. Just take the column cover off which is probably 2 screws. I forgot what to look for since i havent done this in a long time.
