Default Differential I.D

My rear end recently sheared itself in two. I had to replace the whole axle assembly. The guy that did it got it from another dodge of the same body style but it was 4X4. Could any one tell me what rerarend i have now?I want to order a rear end cover and don't know what to get. He said it was a Dana 40, but i can only find a dodge listing for a Dana 44. If i got a picture of the rear end could you tell me what it is? My truck is a 1992 D150 5.2L 2wd.

it should be a chrysler 9.25" corporate axle. Same body style, but was it a 1/2 ton, 3/4, 1 ton, what year? If it's a 3/4 or 1 ton then it's probably a dana 60 or 70

the original was a 8.25 i beleive i haven't read the option sticker on the hood underside. But he told me it came from a 4X4. I can obviously see the bolt pattern is different. It's shaped almost like a "D", the old was a circle. The new one has a drain plug near the bottom of the cover. I'll take pictures and maybe that will help.

All dana axles will have a number stamped on the housing somewhere; usually on the bottom right side by the cover on the webbing between diff housing and axletube.
