Default Dang it

I went down to my underground parking spot, and there is a huge puddle of trans fluid under my truck. Safe to say something bad has happened. I'm going to climb under with a light and find out if I blew it up, or if the gasket just went bad, but for now I need a little clarification. I went to car-part.com to see what's available locally for trannies in the wrecking yards. They presented me with the list of trannies available on the D150 in 85, well there are 2 automatics for 4x2 318. One is the A727 and the A999. I need to know what are the differences in these to trannies, and how do I tell which one I have?

You are probably being a little quick to condemn the trans. Loosing a gasket and having it dump all of the fluid at once is pretty common. Get a good quality, rubber replacement gasket and filter and change it out. Be careful to work the bolts gently if they are stuck so you don't twist them off and then don't put them back in too tight. Doesn't take a lot of pressure. Refill your trans...might have to shift it back and forth between the gears...and get the level back up and you should be ok.

Well the only reason I think there's something worse than the gasket, is because the truck had been sitting a day or two before the puddle showed up.
