Default New truck

I bought another 84 d150. The owner of the truck said that it has a 360, but the motor only has a 2 barrel carb which the 318 had that also came in the truck. The VIN doesnt say which motor it has, the only plate I can find is on the cowl. Would this tell me which motor it has. Was there 360s with only 2 barrel carbs? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
James.

The eighth digit should be engine code. There was a 360 two barrel avaliable from 1983- 1989. Your engine codes are as follow
H- 225 6 cylinder 1bbl
I- 360 4bbl Cali.
T- 318 2bbl
U- 318 4bbl
V- 360 2bbl
W- 360 4bbl Federal

And don't always trust that the Vin matches what's under the hood. My 85's Vin says 6cyl, but the truck has a 318 2bbl.

The VIN is always right, if something different is between the rails you have gotten a truck with an engine swap or not looking at the right year VIN codes. VIN unless tampered with, ( which is visual obvious) will always hold the key to a vehicles info. But it is easy to spot if it's been removed.
