1981 Dodge Ram Beater
I am kinda looking for a beater truck that I can lift, and beat on it, and it wont cost me a ton, and then I wont have to beat on my nice 4x4. So anyways, I found a 1981 Dodge Power Ram with a 318, it is mechaniclally sound, but it doesnt look beautiful and needs a little TLC(tinkering on odds and ends). Anyways, I was wondering what you think a truck like this might be worth? the guy is asking $650 and seem pretty firm on it, sorry I dont have any pictures.
Also, I was just looking at lift kits for it and I saw this 8" lift for it that truck.

But...for this lift kit will I need some kind of extension on my driveshaft(s)?
Also, will I need some kind of steering extension for it?
What other things will I need with this lift kit?
Thanks for the help guys, it is much appreciated, Clint.

I paid $400 for my '81 W150 but it needed some work to be driveable...all the tires were dry rotted and the glasspacks were rusted out. Also had to replace the steering joint and did stuff like a tuneup, water pump, and hoses. The body is basically shot on mine from being laid on its side but I tracked down a 2wd with a decent body for $200 before I bought it. Probably a decent price for yours.

I just bought a 90 w150 for 500 bucks, runs great lower miles but the 4x4 didn't work, or so the previous owner thought, tore into it and it was a $5.20 part that came off in the front differential, as for the lift im in the same boat, i bought a 5.5in superlift at the same time i bought the truck off craigslist for $100, after researching it there is a slew of things that can be done to make the lift kit work correctly, check out the specks from the manufacturer, they usually recommend what might be needed. Usually over 6in of list you need to extend your drive shaft and sometimes you can mickey-mouse the steering for cheap, anyways good luck if you bought the truck.
if you want to keep the price down on an older Dodge truck, do NOT buy a D or W series with a CUMMINS diesel. it will cost you $3000 - $4500 for the truck and will most likely have a nice straight body.
