Default Timing troubles

i'm sure its in this forum somewhere, but i'm trying to save a little bit of time. I know on a gm the little brown wire has to be disconnected from the distributor to set the timing. On a 88 dodge ram with a 318 tbi, does anything need to be pulled or unplugged while setting the timing? My haynes manual doesn't indicate anything. I just keep having more and more problems and am trying to figure it all out. Thanks for the help.
