87 power ram carb problems

Default 87 power ram carb problems

got my first dodge about a year ago its an 87 power ram with 318 auto 4x4 ive done a lot of work to make it a play truck 5 inch suspension lift 36 inch super swamper iroks lockrite locker in rear edelbrok carb and a snorkle system duel exhaust with flowmasters it runs great on the road but off road on any steep hills or high rpm's to get through the mud it dies after a little cranking will start back up sometimes with a cloud of black smoke maybe overloading? any thoughts or advice

new to the whole forum thing

Sounda like your fuel is "sloshing" out of the bowls and causing it to flood. You mentioned that on steep hills that it does this after, is the carb a street carb? If you do alot of hill climbing you might want to switch to Holleys off road carb or find a good Q jet for it. Q jets floats are center hung and they are not prone to flood after a hill climb like Holleys. Holleys are a rich running carb anyway, the offroad carb they make is a good carb for trucks.
