transfer case problem

I have a 1985 W350/4spd manual /4wd, the truck seems to have lost its 2hi. The lever feels like it is in 2hi but the truck will not move. It will only move in 4hi or 4lo regardless if the front hubs are engaged. I also get a whining noise in 4hi when the truck is going about 45mph.........any suggestions
