Why not just get another truck with a 318 installed, (I'll sell you my 96 with 115000 miles for $3500)? If you change the engine, how about the drive train and suspension? Save some $$ and buy a new (used) truck. Thats what I did, I upgraded to a 5.9, got a bit newer truck (00) with a few less miles (99K).

If you can spot a compatible crashed truck insomebody's backyard you can get everything you need, mtr.,trans, harness, etc. usually dirt cheap. Just look close before you leap. The A-500 trans behind your V-6 is pretty weak if you've got an O.D/auto.Be prepared to cuss or findan A-727 or A-518 if O.D. If it's a manual, should be O.K. I just bought a crashed '90 3.9 Dakota for $350, had a $1600 rebuilt trans in it![A-500 junk which isterminally illfor thethird time in the wife's] The rest of the truck has 73,000mi. Been sitting in a backyard since '99. Took awhile to find it, but it's the easiest and cheapest way to go if you can find one that's decent mechanically. If not, scrounging boneyards is about it. B.T.W. A 360 would be even better.
