Is a 9-1/4" rear a dana?
Okay, I was just looking at US GEAR after reading about a dodge 9-1/4" buildup where the guy put 3.55 gears and a limited slip in his axle after developing the infamous dodge 9-1/4" CLUNK. I want to do the same thing with a sure grip I am buying. But they have the 8-3/4 listed but no 9-1/4... but they do list dana axles. Do I need to call? Or is the 9-1/4" really a dana 44 or something?

No ...a 9 1/4 is a mopar designed axle and so is a 8 3/4. If you have never seen a 8 3/4do a ebay serch for one...it is a pig-style(the center chunk drops out of the front of the housing ....a 9 1/4 has 12 bolt s and a rear cover that looks like a stop sign .... a dana 44 is small looking(look under a older jeep cherokee the next time you at a salvage yard) ... a dana 60 has a rear cover also and is larger that a 9 1/4 and is usally easily identfied by the fact that dana 60's in trucks usally have 8-lugs and most of the time are in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks but some 3/4 tons came witha heavy duty version of the 9 1/4 which looks physically the same but had larger wheel bearings...and 8 lugs.So for the short of it if us gear didnt show axles for a 9 1/4...they probly dont carry'em...But somebody else does... Why were you looking for axles anyway?
