Default 2WD to 4WD

Just for ****s and grins what kind of work would be involved with converting a 2WD D-150 to a 4WD? What would you have to change? What would a guy all need? And about how much would it cost? And are there conversion kits out there for 1st gen Ram? Well let the debate begin, and thanks to all who post.

Find a 4x4 that has the body rusted off of it or is really tore up put your cab, bed, and dog house on the 4x4 frame and be done. Its not as simple as I make it sound but its alot easier than turning a D truck into a W truck.

Im iwth 84 Ram on this one. Even if you find one that is in good shape, it prolly still cheaper to buy the whole truck then convert. plus you can sell your D.

wow i plan on doing this to my d 150 sometime. i know everyone is saying just get a 4x4 frame or whole truck, which may be easier, but as the original question says, what kind of work would be involved, and what would actually need to be done to convert WITHOUT swapping frames. and what are some differences in the d and w bodies?

I don't understand the concept of putting a 4x4 running gear on a 4x2 frame. The 4x4 running gear is going to have to be stripped from a frame so I wold say just get it all and do it the easy way. There is no difference in a D body and a W body. The W means 4x4 and the Dstands for 4x2.

well since frame swap is the way to go, i have a 92 ext. cab. i was thinking just get the frame from a reg cab long bed and put in that. does anyone know if they fit? if i had one to measure i wouldnt ask. and will it fit on the 70s frames too? or just the 80s and up to 93?
thanks
