how do you remove the stub shifter?

Default how do you remove the stub shifter?
ok as you might know from my other post my truck is stuck in second gear. a few people told me that my shifter might be broke inside the transmission. does anyone know how to take the little stub out of the shift tower without ripping the transmission out? the transmission isa NP-4500.
