Hello, need help please
Hey everyone, I'm brand new here so be gentle
My stepfather has an '87 150 ram and I am trying to get it to pass inspection. It was rejected for faulty smog equipment. The pump locked up and melted a few things so I just pulled the belt off years ago. Anyways, I got a smog pump off of a van but now need a schematic and/or pictures of how the system is layed out (I can't remember and don't have the parts I pulled off) I think all i am missing is the tube that comes off the back of the pump and runs to the cat but am not sure. The van I pulled the pump off had a little different set-up with a steel pipe running to after the pass side manifold, this truck doesn't have that.
Anyways, if anyone knows what i am talking about and wants to sell it to me, please let me know.
PS great site btw....lots of good info on here.
Thanks in advance,
-Jarrod

i know thepart your talking about but i need it to pass inspection...wrecker is best bet
after you get this one back together and pass inspection, just take off the pulley beltand not the whole unit
ps, do you need apicture of the layout? ive got a 91....i dont think that matters though

Thanks for the reply. Yes a picture would be great.
The original unit is still on the truck but I can't remember what happened to the pipe going the cats..I think the end of it melted so i just cut it off under the truck.
Thanks again

i guess it depends on the mechanic eh?
i know that if i took it to a major shop (Walmart, canadian tire, or watever) they would fail me right away for not having standard smog components hooked up(not to mentiona possible fine if he wanted too). the last owner of my truck - for watever reason - disconnected the pipe from the cat, but left thepump fully hooked up, and it passed. Played with the timing though.
ive go no idea why he had cut just the pipe, he had brazed the bit coming from the cat shut. but anyhow, with just a bit of luck all theyll do is have a peek to see if there is an AIR pump under the hood and then call it a day.
so what exactly do you need an picture of? not the pump but the line running from pipe to the cat?
PS if it melted shut and you arent the one that melted it shut, the pump may (and i repeat may) by working even at wide open throttle which it shouldnt. Anything ive ever read says that these pumps dump the air into the atmosphere at high temps (ie wide open T)to avoid an overheat and hence melting. just a thought though. never really seen that happen
