Default A stumper for most (ignition problems)

hey, hows it goin?

here's the question

my truck which isa 1985 dodge ram royal se 318ci 2 barrel carb, loves to crank for a long time. even after running for an hour of driving still likes to crank for a 20ish crank overs then starts. i inspected fuel lines, fuel pump, gas tank, and filter.carb spitsout gas just fine
(also not related but engine also fluds itself after shutting the engine off) suspecting carb problems.

i have just replaced:
ignition coil
spark plugs
spark plug wires
distributor(re-timed engine to correct spec 8 degree's DTC)
igntion control module

all wires are connected correctly and in decent shape no breaks. and all connections are tight and rust free.

what i have figured out is:
when checking for spark, instead of bright blue spark it is a deep red spark
and when watching battery turning over the volts constantly drain to 7-8v which is low i think

please help i cant keep being late for work :P thank you for your time.

It sure sounds like a carb issue to me! Give it a shot of starter fluid and see how it starts. If it starts right up itsprobably a carb/fuel issue. (also a chance of a weak spark, but not likley after all the spark stuff you have done, also with the flood issue, it points to the carb)

it sounds like you have a leak in a fuel line and when you shut it off it is losing its "prime" in the lines. you could try tightening all of the clamps on your fuel lines.

pourA LITTLEbitof gas rightinto the carb and see if itfires right away, or at least sooner. that will sort out if its a spark ora fuel flow issue (which i think ismore likely judging by what youve changed).
