Default Rearend Swap

Hello All,

I have a '91 D150 with 318 Auto and an 8-1/4" rear, that I want to replace with a heavy duty rear for a performance engine build in the near future. I found a Dana that the seller tells me is from a Ramcharger, but he doesn't know the year. I understand that the Ramchargers were mfd for ~20 years and I know that the Dana 60's were an option for the 1st Gen Rams, but was wondering if they differed dimensionally across the years and models or if this should bolt in without major mods. Any advice is really appreciated.

Pete

I dont think the D-60 was ever available in 72-93 half ton. They were very common in the 3/4 ton trucks of the same era, but the wheel bolt pattern will be 8 lug.

Find and 9.25 out of a 1/2 ton. I beat on one with a 400 W/ 375hp and never had a problem.

That's what I was thinking. I hear the 9.25's are easier to work on than the Dana's too, right?

Thanks for the replies!

Got lucky, found a '73 8 3/4" in a bone yard.$75. The 9 1/4" 1/2 ton may be almost as scarce. Only one I've seen is in a '78 440 short wide that the guy is letting rot into the ground. Big block1/2 tonsmostly?
