Talking Progress report:

I just thought I`d let everybody know what`s been going on lately. I currently have the engine running (very loudly with open headers), the front end is back together except for the hood. The wiring is done except for the backup lights. Now I need to put a new fuel pump in it, which will have to wait until I find a job (I don`t want to talk about it). With the fuel pump not working, I have a small half gallon fuel tank from a riding mower hanging above the engine and feed it gravity flow. Even at that it starts right up, you don`t have to do more than just bump it over. Now if I had an antenna on it, I could listen to the radio.

I probably got a fuel pump. Could ship you one for a few hundred bucks freight.
Were you using the stock FI pump without a return line? Wondering, seen the regulator
on the firewall.
If you need a job you could move out here to the middle of hell,we're two years behind and gettin' farther behind every day. Too bad, people in hell are screaming for ice water, but we have their pump in the shop. Get to it when we can.

Yeah, I did away with the return line and decided to go with a regulator. The pump really wasn`t working that well before anyway, I just decided to use it to get the truck running, that`s why I didn`t put the tank back under it yet. Did you ever see the video? I have the idle speed right on it now, so she really lopes. I`ve never heard a 318 sound like that before, but I`m just that damn good lol. The thing I was wondering is if you have the little piece that goes under the steering column that the fuse box sits on. The one from my truck was in a truck of my brothers when he sold it. And I think I may have a good shot at a decent job in a paint store in Beaumont, the manager said he doesn`t do the hiring, but he could promise me an interview. So in about 2 weeks I should know. I hope I get it. Decent pay, good insurance, retirement plan, and I could work on my truck some more.

And I bet I could pull that Ramcharger backerds with 2 plug wires missing!

Those pumps'll smoke with no return. Yeah I've got the peice you need for the column.
An' yeah I seen the video. Sounds like you got 2 wires off already lol.
Remember the guy with the dozer who was gonna hep ya drag me backerds? Wull he broke his dozer's trans root plowin' the rocks out here so I rented him my Ramcharger.
He says he gets more done cause he can plow 30'' deep in 2hi thru solid rock. Has to ride the brakes some to keep from killin' cows with flyin' rocks but that's his problem.
All ****tin' aside your truck sounds good. [Send me a couple gallons of cheap white if you get the job. 'Ol bumpy looks a little rough.]

It didn`t sound as good in that video because it was idling waayyy too high. But with all the vacuum leaks plugged and a few other things done, she sounds really good now. I have an old power steering pump with no lines on it to hold tension on the water pump belt, and a pulley of the clutch on a riding mower to keep tension on the alternator belt, but that works well enough for starting it in the garage. Odly, I can`t get readings on any of my gauges (the ones the sending units are hooked up for). And should I be running a return line? I never really thought about it. If I had thought about it in time I would have installed a drive for a mechanical pump, but I didn`t think about it before reassembling the front of the motor. I also didn`t know that the 88`s used a roller cam, so when I put that flat tappet cam in my pushrods were too short by about seven tenths of an inch. I`ll try to get a better video up soon, that way you can know your competition. I`m guessing 370HP. Can that Ramcharger handle that?

An old power steering pump with no lines and a clutch pulley from a riding mower.Dude,do you work at General Motors? Forget the paint shop, you were born to be an engineer.I wish I was half as motivated as you are.Now that it runs better why not post another video? I`m sure we`d all love to see it.

Ground the orange wire to the temp sensor and see if it moves. If they are all dead see if you have 12v in/intermttent 5v out at the voltage limiter on the circuit board.

The FI system had the regulator in the TB, with a return line. With no return you've basically got the pump dead-headed. Spec pressure dead-headed for the stock pump is 105 psi. The regulated FI press. is 12 psi. Definately not good for the pump. Aeromotive makes an internally regulated gerotor street pump that's quieter than the vane type Holley blue pump.

You could also get a return type regulator to keep a stock in tank pump set at about 5-7 psi for the carb. Get a '87 Chevy pickup pump and the GM pig tail. Same pump, same specs, half the price. Go figure. Got one in my Daytona.

If you'd known about the rollers you could have kept the stock lifters and got a nastier roller profile with the same idle quality. You can also run the roller lifters on a flat tappet cam ,but not vice-versa.[ An old Super Stock trick to reduce friction when a stock cam is required by the rules. Those guys are shifty.] After you break in the cam with the weak stock springs consider some stouter ones. Your cam will like RPMs and the stock springs suck. You'll probably be lucky to get 5000 RPM out of it. But with the stock unported heads that may be all it'll breathe to anyhow. The 318 intake ports are kinda small. Some 4.56 gears would help with the 318s short stroke/low torque. A lumpy cam will kill the bottom end power too.
370 !? Uphill an' backerds. With a head wind. {tail wind if backerds?}

Could I put a T fitting on the input line to the regulator and run a return from there to the pump? And I will get a better video soon, I just want to get the riding mower tank out from under the hood first. Don`t want anyone thinking this is a Ford or anything.

I tried grounding it and the gauge didn`t move. As far as checking the circuit board, I basically have no Idea what you are talking about. Would it be simpler just to buy a set of good gauges and hang them below the tach?

And we had a guy chasing goats aroung here for a while, but what he was doing was very illegal. Especially since he killed them first. In his neighbors pasture. Very late at night. Not sure I want to be chasing livestock................

I did however name my truck El Chupicabara. But I doubt it will suck the blood from goats, just the gas from the pump.
