Default 1990 Dodge RAM 150 Towing assistance please

I was referred here by someone on 300cforums.com (I drive a HEMI 300C). Anyways I am buying a new/old boat and I was asking them about towing and whatnot and basically it resulted in them convincing me not to pull a boat that could potentially weigh 3600LBs fully loaded with my full sized luxury sedan lol (here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-ram-tech-63/) anyways before I pull the trigger and buy my fathers truck from him for $1200 Which is a steal for this EXCELLENT TRUCK (90k miles, 2nd owner, cap included and all) I wanna make sure that this vehicle would be able launch and retrieve a potentially heavy bass boat that weighs around 2200-3600lbs... and what about towing on the highway?

My father has told me that he's launched and retrieved boats before and pulled his 4000 LB camper with it with ease. He said it has a 5.2Liter 318 in it.

I have always been a Dodge fan and really only want that (the guys on the other forum seem to like suburbans and tahoe's... which i dislike, I just prefer Dodge

What do you all think?

Thanks for the input

The gears are turning for sure, but I have not found the exact numbers yet, Having driven one with a 318 I'm going to say you should be okay, plenty of low end torque when you are pulling out at the ramp. And highway driving should be nice and smooth. I will continue to look for hard numbers for you.

Thanks man, I looked on Google myself (and I'm a computer guy) and couldn't find much... one guy said 3600lbs but that doesn't sound right... sounds way to low to me. This truck is a beast at the least!! Thanks again

Check the gear ratio. I dunno what options they had in '90 but my '84 wasnt rated for towing at all with the 2.76 axle it came with. You should have enough power in that motor to tow your boat with the right gearing.

My Dad hauled a slide in camper all over the greater USA with a '90 150/318. Added airbag overloads but otherwise stock. Camper weighed 3800 some odd with full water tank etc. He was in no particular hurry and said the little 318 did a respectable job. Did eat a wheel brg. after a few trips. Truck now has over 200,000k on it,trans went out @ 74,000k [prior to the camper]otherwise never been apart. Still has it,still runs great.
