need help finding info with seat belts
my truck is a 1974 dodge ram pickup and i have been getting pulled over by the local police department and they tell me that i need the shoulder harnesses in my truck i was wondering if by any chance any one knew if the law says that i do not need them and if so could you please get back to me and give me the internet address or the book you found it in so that i may be able to fight this in court THANKS A LOT
I know in terms of safety, if your dodge didnt come with shoulder harnesses the inspection center will still pass it due to O.E., if you do add the harness they wont pass it. Same thing happened to me in my old jeep they didnt pass it when i added the harness. As far as law is concerned, depends on the state your in.
Is there a threaded hole in the C-pillar for shoulder belts? If it didn't come with 'em factory, tell 'em to tune a meat whistle. Apparently shoulder belts depended on optional equipment. Mine's an '84,had the factory shoulder belts/bench. Swapped in factory '77 buckets/console and lap belts only. The lap belts only were factory issue for a '77/buckets/club cab.
If the cops here don't see the buckle/belt by the window they don't stop me. No hassles on stickers so far,at least on the belts. Smog crap on a 440,yeah.
