Default can't believe this is so tough to find - 4spd to 5spd swap

Hi guys.
First time dodge owner here. Have really grown to like them after being in a few unstoppable RC's and Rams. Here is my quandry, I'm finding it hard to get info on this: I've got an 88 D150, single owner, no accidents, great runner. Loud, whiny, farm-truck manual tranny that I THINK, is one of those NP435's. It's a 3.9 V6. I really, really would like to pop in a 5 speed from a near-year truck, or a dakota or something. Wouldn't this be a near direct swap? How come nobody ever talks about this? These 4-spds. really can't keep up on the highway with these gas prices, and the 5 spd would just seem like a better option for a light-duty 1/2 ton. I'll never tow anything with this old gal, or run it hard, however, I would like to make the odd 500 mile journey, and I just don't dig the lack of an OD. PLEASE ADVISE!

I had a '90 D100 with a V6 a few years back. When i first got the truck, the trans was already removed & on the pass. side floor. It had an aluminum-cased trans in it, which was an NP2500 (5 speed). I got another one out of a Dakota with a V6 from the junkyard & it worked allright until the 227K+ caught up with it.

Wasn't so bad - I was on the freeway doing 70-75 with it all the time.
Its' OK for a lighter duty trans.

The NP435 is a big cast iron cased thing; & I think the only aluminum part of it is the top cover
There is also an NP4500 (NV4500?) but I don't know much if anything about those.
