Default Source for tailgate pivot repair part??

My left side one rusted off my '87 Ram Charger W150. Anybody know anyplace that sells a repair part? I have a MIG welder and can do metal fab. I could just make something up out of a piece of pipe I'd guess. Doesn't look like much "meat" at the back corners of the bed for welding though.

Anyone done this before? Tailgate is fine, right side pivot looks OK...

TIA

JH

A friend with a '77 had the same issue and we fabbed one from a piece of pipe and
"stitch" welded with a MIG. Keep a wet rag around to cool surrounding metal after a short pass. That will minimize warping.

well i dont know how much is left of the body on your truck. But you could take a flat peice of steel, cut it to that shape of what i guess youd call the "door jam" of the tailgate. Then before welding that in, weld the hinge stud to the piece you just cut.

The worst the rust is, the bigger you make the frist piece. Then just drop it over the existing metal.

Plus you wouldnt even have to make a mess welding the new plate on - just rivet it. Slap on the closest matching rust paint and its done.
