Default bed removal/flatbed

Im thinking about removing the bowed rusted bed of my w100 and building a flat bed.

Would I weld some angle steel on the frame in a rectangle, then I was thinking on 3" thick pressure treated lumber for the top and just bolt it to the angle steel. Is that how its done?

When I built mine, I made the bed frame mounts match up with the oem mounts, I just welded a short piece of angle iron on the the bed rail and drilled a hole in it, and welded a nut to it, so I could bolt it to the same holes in the truck frame mounts. I ended up putting a 2X4 under it later, just had to get longer bolts and drill out the 2X4.
