lowering '85 swb Royal 150 SE
I am attempting the lowering of my first truck and have already successfully lowered the rear several inches by simply putting the axle on top of the springs. In the front I have been suggested to follow a couple options, heating the springs and cutting the springs. Anyone have anything they would add to this discussion? thanks
How does it handle now? I'm sure the integrity of the spring steel wasn't adversly affected by heating it up sufficiently to reshape it. Did you get different shocks so that they don't bottom out, or did you just leave the stock bumpstops? How about the rear end, did you adjust the pinion angle to maintain correct geometry?
The truck actually handles well, although of course it rides stiffer, it's not bad at all. I have kept the stock shocks in front but the front springs are stiff enough now that it hasn't bottmed out in the front but I do have to change the ones in the rear because they are making a little clunking noise under rough road conditions. I put a wedge block under the rear end mounts although it wasn't that radical of move so I am not sure I needed it.
HEY, I JUST GOT A 87 WITH 318, WAS LOOKING AT LOWERING AND WAS THINKING ABOUT DOING THE SAME TO THE FRONT SPRINGS, HOW MUCH DID YOU CUT?? THANKS
