85MPH to 120MPH speedo
If any of yall noticed that theres no much of anything for custom part for these truck if found a easy a cheap up grade for all the first gen hot rod trucks. like most of us except for a few. we all drive mostly 81-87 rams with 85MPH max speedo. well i found if u go to ur local salvege yard and find the 70's model van with the 120 speedo in it u can install it in your mid 80's rams. All you need is to buy the the gauge cluster, a flat head and a PH2 screwdriver, RTV silicone and a drill and bit set.
to install the gauge pull apart the dash. first the radio then all that screws. you will have to kinda have to twist the trim around to get it out and disconect the dash light (if not all ready broken) the pull the gauge cluster out. note: the to the back and right there is a piece of the cluster that holds the A/C controls forward, be vary carful and not to break it.
Unhook a the wiring firm the back of the cluster and and the speedo cable. you will need to push the metal tabe down and pull the cable out at the same time. now pull the cluster out.
There will be 8 or so black pegs that hold the face shield on pull those out gently (remember ur working of 20+ yr old plastic so take it easy and slow) then remove the gauge. You will need to save the little tube of cardboard for your high beam indicator light.
when you take apart the vans clust er save the screws and washers you will need them for clearence for the conversion. if you look very close above and below the hole for the speedo cabel there is some mold marks drill two holes in those marks then apply some slicon to the flat part of the gauge then you should have four small washers form the vans cluster u will need to stack two on each hole and them screw down the new gauge and dont for get to install ur cardbored tube of u HBIL. The silicon is used to keep every thins form moving around. them put the face shield back on and put your dast back together. NOTE: these gauges are more sensitive so if you have a high mile truck a new speedo cable may be needed to keep the gauge form jumping.
The nice part about this conversion is cheap a relitivly fast a easy while keeping the stock factory look.
Im going to try it with the charger 150MPH rally gauge soon as i find one
I hope this helps some of you i thought i was neat mabe ya'll willl to

Too bad mine wont go over 75 without sounding like its going to shoot a piston out of the motor... damn 3 speed... Great conversion though only thing I would suggest is snapping some pics and show step by step for the less mechanically inclined. I know most people who have any type of rod know what they are doing but to actually see a before and after is nice too.
to be perfectly honest i have no idea... I have only had this truck for a month or so, it has been pieced together from AT LEAST 2 trucks. I have a VIN plate on the truck plus one in the glove box with a title. It has 8 lugs all the way around so im guessing from a d350??? So it might ba a dana 60 or who know havent had the time to really spend on the things that work. mostly replacing "First round" parts and throwing a few extras in the mix.
