Default help! 4 speed overdive tranny to replace 727

Is there an easy way to do this? Without replacing the harness and computer and such?? I need to replace the tranny now(cracked bell housing) so if i can id like to do it, if not i guess ill have to throw in the a999, but that will give me worse mpg than the 727. Opinions and or thoughts.

If it's a '92 or earlier A-518 OD it can be done, but it's not a bolt in and go deal. You have to shorten the drive shaft, different trans mount, move the crossmember a little bit. To make it live, you'll have to get the biggest trans cooler you can find and swap the 5/16'' lines to 3/8''. The 5/16'' 727/904/999 cooler in the radiator really doesn't flow enough fluid and becomes a restriction. Or you can swap in a late radiator with the big cooler.

Then there's the electricals. You'll need a vacuum switch for the converter lock up,and a on/off switch for the OD. The 999 may actually get slightly better mileage than the 727 as the guts are lighter, plus the 999 has a lower 1st gear than a 904/727. 904/999s are pretty weak for pickup duty though.
